A weekend trip to Venice, Italy

I am planning a few trips to Europe with my friends for next year once the pandemic situation calms down. Yes, planning well in advance is my way! So, I thought if you want to plan something similar with your squad, this might give you some direction. One of the possible trips that I am planning is a weekend in Venice – the city of water. As picturesque the city is as we know it, prepare for some amazing posts for your gram! We are planning a 3 day – 2 nights trip to Venice. Here’s the plan…

Flights

We will take return EasyJet flights from London Luton airport (LTN) to Marco Polo airport (VCE) in Venice. It will be a direct flight for 2 hours early morning around 6 to 7 am with 1 hand luggage – all for £65 per person. If you want to get the best prices available for the flights, I highly recommend you checkout the Google Flights.

Airport to Accommodation

Once out of the airport, we will take Vaporetto Line 1, which is a 1-hour water bus ride to our accommodation. There is a quicker way to travel to the outskirts of the Venezia city via train, but it is recommended to travel via the water bus as it is a unique experience to see the city of water. There is an option to buy a 3-day pass for the water bus from the airport for €40. This is recommended as it will save you some money. The Vaporetto Line 1 would drop us at the point which is 5 min walk from our Airbnb stay over. Research the nearest spot for the water bus to the area where you will be staying so you don’t have to walk with your luggage, as I know this can be a hassle.

Accommodation

We will be staying at an apartment which we found at Airbnb. The apartment is located in the heart of Venice, just 50 metres from the Rialto Bridge and the Grand Canal. You can find some amazing hotel options for yourself from Booking.com, if you prefer to not stay at an Airbnb, which could be a cheaper option for people travelling on budget.

Venezia City

After leaving our luggage at the apartment, we plan to see the water city on foot. Yes! There are no cars that run in this city. You have to walk around a lot so pack your most comfortable shoes or if you don’t have one yet, its time to invest! For day 1, we plan to see the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark’s Basilica, St. Mark’s Square, Palazzo Ducale, Ponte Dei Sospiri, Gondola Ride and Scala Contarini del Bovolo.

For Day 2, we plan to visit the Burano Island which is a small water bus ride away from Venice. Use the 3-day pass for Vaporetto for this route too. Burano Island is a beautiful island where all the photography lovers can find some amazing picturesque spots. The island is famous for its glass artwork, so you must check out the glass-making factory and the mini shops in the streets that sell these to tourists.

Gondola Ride

You must plan to ride a Gondola ride on the Grand Canal in Venice. The ride takes about 30.40 minutes. If you plan to take the ride in the daytime, it costs about €80. It is said the views of the water city are much special in the evening, hence the price of the ride after 7 pm is €100. But it said to share the boat ride with other passengers to split the cost if you want to save some extra bucks!

Places to Eat

There are many Italian cafes and restaurants with authentic Italian food and drinks.

For a true Venetian breakfast or afternoon snacks, it is recommended that the All’Arco is by far the most authentic and delicious spot in town. People come here, of course, for the famous cicchetti snacks, which are basically fresh meats, produce or cheese in various combinations that are delicately balanced atop small slices of crostini. You must arrive in the early morning and elbow up next to the boisterous fishmongers from the nearby Rialto Market. They will be refuelling on cicchetti and prosecco well before noon, as a Venetian does. It is a must try if you are in Venice.

Entertainment

Piccolo Mondo Disco is a nightclub, with some food and drinks options available. We do plan to check it out and you must too. Remember it is a Friday and Saturday only club, so you must check timings before you plan your trip.
